Len: Kolsar family from area of Vrbas.... formerly Hungarian Empire
My great-grandparents Maria and Petar Kolesar immigrated in 1907 from Serbia area of the Austian-Hungarian Empire.... to the Akron, Ohio (USA) area and that is where my grandmother Esther P. Kolesar was born.

The 1907 passenger list on the ship that Maria and Petar Kolesar came to the U.S. on lists their former home as in "Oberbaas, Hungary".... and lists the following person for point of contact "father: Stari Urbas, 91 Backa". ... I assume this is Vrbas in present day Serbia.

The 1910 and 1920 U.S. Censuses state that both Petar and wife Maria were born in "Hungary" and that they spoke "Russian"... and the census indicates that their parents were also born in Hungary (Austian-Hungarian Empire) and spoke Russian.

Anyone else connected to this family?

Hi! Do you know if a Kolesar female in your family married Mihaly/Michael Haky? Anna Kolesar was from Iglo, Austria Hungarian Empire which is in Slovakia--we think that she was from somewhere in the Spis region of Slovakia.

Thanks,
edie

My grandfather was Joseph Kolesar. His brother was Stefan and immigrated from Szilas in 1905 or so. When Joseph died in 1910, his obit said he had a brother and SISTER in Cleveland. I do not know her given name. Was she from Szilas?

Keresek József Kolesar ben született Bodvaszilas 1881. Kissé bizonytalan vagyok, hogy a helyes írásmódját a vezetéknév. Bátyja Stefan született 1883-ban kivándorolt Amerikába 1903-ban.
